Post-it #158

Lydia learned how to draw faces. She drew our family.

110th Passage

Morgan: I'm glad that robbers always dress in a certain way. With a gray shirt and black pants and sometimes an eye thing and a hat. That way the police always know if they're a robber. But why don't they just dress like normal people?

Owen: Morgan, what's pressure?
Morgan: pressure is when there is too much water on you and you get smashed. Your brain gets squished, and blood is spewing out of you, and the water turns red.

Lydia: mommy. Mommy...mommy!
Me: yes, Lydia?
Lydia: I like Jesus.
Me: I like Jesus, too.
Lydia: boys, you like Jesus?

Owen: guess what, guys? I can speak girl.
Morgan: of course you can speak girl. Girls speak just like boys.

Morgan: we haven't seen the libary one.
Owen: libRary, not libary. Cause then it would be a lie and a berry.

Almost every morning during chores, I get to hear the boys bidding for Lydia to help them. "Want to help me? I'm cleaning the bathroom. You can clean the counter." "Want to help me, Lydia? I'm cleaning the living room, you can do the shoes." "Lydia, you can help me clean the kitchen. I'll let you wipe the table."
And then Lydia makes a choice, garnering two groans and one cheer from her brothers.

Morgan, who is 7, has been working on some pretty simple math this morning, which he can do, but doesn't want to do. So he's already using the age old complaint "why do I need to learn this? Why is math even in the world??"

This morning I was bathing Allison, (which she hates) and Lydia was "helping." She said, "hey, baby has my pee pee!" Yes Lydia, you are both girls. Can you tell she learns her vernacular from her brothers?

Morgan: "Daddy, guess what my favorite whale is?"
David: "A killer whale?"
Morgan: "Nope"
David: "A blue whale?"
Morgan: "Nope, my favorite is the sperm whale. Because I know the most about sperm whales. And I think sperm is a funny word."

Morgan: "it will take three minutes to get home."
William: "I think it will take five."
Morgan: "Daddy, how much is 120 plus 60?"
David: "One hundred eighty"

Morgan: "See, William, Daddy says it will take three minutes to get home 'cause sixty plus sixty plus sixty is three minutes."

Post-it #157

Flowers from David, January 8, 2014. He also surprised me with a present of new shoes! I often wonder what I did to qualify for the blessing of being his wife. I'll keep trying to deserve it.
David also gave Lydia a rose. She was thrilled! She said, "thank you, Daddy! I love it! I love it!"

109th Passage

We had Lydia's baby blessing on Sunday. Since it was the first Sunday of the year our church schedule changed. It was nice starting at 11:00 instead of 9:00, giving me more time to get everyone ready and out of the house on time.
I got Allison all dressed in the pretty blessing dress that all the girl cousins have used.

It was a lovely blessing that David gave her.
After church we reconvened at our house for a  late lunch and visiting. Some of my family was there, as well as David's parents. It was a good Sunday.
Oh, we got the family picture for the special day. It is hard to get a decent picture of us all.  Check out the sequence of fails.

Owen and Lydia are pretty much adorable in all the pictures.
Can I just say that I can't wait to for the day when I don't have to cringe at pictures with me due to a fat face and double chin?

Post-it #156

We had my family over for New Years Eve. Lydia took this opportunity to paint fingernails and toenails of many of our guests, including Grandpa.

108th Passage

It was a Monday afternoon. I only had three children at home, which would usually mean a little more peace. Not that Monday. Allison was doing one of her things where she was screaming and nothing would console her. I tend to get a little stressed and frazzled when my babies cry for prolonged periods and nothing I do fixes it. This was the time that Morgan chose to ask for a candy cane from the Christmas tree. I permitted it.
I'm not sure what prompted me to look behind me at where Morgan was, but I looked in time to see him yanking on a candy cane hard enough to pull the entire tree over. He was lucky enough to avoid getting smashed.
While dealing with that and the crying baby, Lydia started having a melt down about a candy cane. Huge tantrum.
I hadn't planned on taking the Christmas tree down until after New Years, but since I had the option of putting all the ornaments back on the tree, or packing them up, I opted for the latter.

Later that day I had the baby asleep and I needed to make a quick phone call. I went upstairs to my room where it would be quiet. The phone call lasted 2 minutes. I know this because I looked at the details of the call on my phone. When I got downstairs the water in the bathroom sink was running and it was plugged.
I let the water drain, then I went out into the kitchen to question Lydia about the sink. That's when I spotted poor Allison in the swing with soaking wet hair.
I ordered a timeout for Lydia. The ensuing tantrum prompted me to enforce a nap instead, which she took after yelling and screaming herself to exhaustion.
Fun days.

The kiddos got to spend time with Great Nana around Christmas. Allison met her for the first time. They love their Great Nana and how she spoils them.
