Post-it #213

I played dress up with Allison a few weeks ago. Everyone says she looks like a little elf or fairy, so I made her one. :) She wasn't a huge fan of the activity.

This is the same tutu that Lydia had when she was a baby. It used to look so much prettier.

While at one of the countless baseball practices or games in June, I snapped these awesome pictures of Allison.

Post-it #211

Alli went through a phase where she would always fall asleep with her face straight down on her hands or in the mattress. It was so weird and cute!

Owen had a school page to do awhile back. Notice the instructions, and notice his answer.
This is one of the perks to homeschooling. I get to see these funny kind of answers. After a bit of a laugh, and taking the picture, of course, I had him erase the second B and replace it with a k.

Alli got too big for the cradle David made, so it was time to set up the crib. I worried the transition from her own space in the music room to sharing a room with Lydia would be rough on Allison, but she has done great!

Post-it #207

Allison got her first haircut! She had funny long wispy's on the sides and back of her head, so we trimmed them to match the rest of her hair. This was about a month ago. I'm really behind.

 All done!

133rd Passage

David decided it would be fun to build a fire pit. When David decides it will be fun to build something, that something always gets built without much delay. Since we hadn't been proactive with a garden this year we had a place to put it.

David read about a keyhole shaped fire pit for cooking. You build the fire in the round part and cook in the square part with the coals the fire creates. You pull coals from the fire when you need them and control the temperature that way.

We did this after baseball games before it got dark. And often after it got dark. Allison was usually the only child outside keeping us company.
We also got really lucky. A lady in the neighborhood just removed some grass from her yard and wanted it gone. We picked it up and it ended up being about exactly the amount of sod we needed to fill in the rest of the garden area.
The first use it got was just for roasting marshmallows. We invited David's parents' over for that.

The next time we used it to cook dinner. We used the dutch oven for the first time. It was super delicious.

We tried another recipe in the dutch oven over the coals. This time it didn't work so well, so we got out the rocket stove to finish cooking the soup. The rocket stove worked great. But the food wasn't that awesome.

I'm sure we'll be doing more experimenting as the summer progresses.

Bicycles! Owen inherited a bigger bike from a bigger brother, so Lydia started riding his little bike. I told her that if she learned to ride it really well that I would buy her a pink bike. She did, so I did. But not before she somehow got her whole leg stuck between the peddle and bike bar. Youch. It was very difficult to extricate. It wasn't without scratches and pain.

With school being out and the weather being warm, the boys have had no shortage of friends to play with from the neighborhood. This was our front yard one day.

We discovered that Allison loves otter pops. When she doesn't get the otterpop that she wants, she kind of turns into a monster.

132nd Passage

On Memorial Day we went to Jump Creek with all the kids. It was a great time. Everyone had fun.
Here are pictures.
